February 07 Mixtape

Going through a bit of a prog honeymoon at the moment. Rediscovering some epic tracks from days gone by as well as a whole lot of new stuff. This summer has been all about dark slamming techno and it’s quite nice to get back into some more laid back, uplifting stuff. Don’t think I’m turning soft though - there’s still some darkness and thudding to be had, albeit at about 10 to 15 bpm lower.

There’s a few stuff ups in this, some tracks I brought in too early and some too late, and one horrific trainwreck which I apologise for, but I did this completely live on the first try and didn’t go back to edit or fixup any of the mistakes to make it clean. It’s still an enjoyable, listenable mix and I think I notice the mistakes more than anyone else does. Keeping this version and not tidying it up is also a way for me to chart my progress in Ableton. As I get better at it and figure out what does and doesn’t work I can look back and see, or hear as may be the case, how I’ve developed. Still hanging out for a midi controller but good things come to those who wait so I’ll just have to make do for now and perhaps carry out a few favours for the job fairy - hopefully she’s in a good mood at the moment.
